In Pursuit of Glory

A heart beats beneath a trio of lions
Hope. Excitement. Belief. Disbelief.
The future lies unwritten. Glory is plausible.
Glory is within reach.

It is a dream, and most dreams fail.
Most dreams fade.
Most dreamers cannot force their dream onto reality.
Most dreamers lack the wit, the invention.
A dream is a glimpse of a purer world:
A world of larger than life heroes,
A world where heartwrenching effort yields reward.
A dream is a vision of a world without heartbreak.

But dreams do not all die – the best persist.
This moment will persist.
We will look back on the memory of  a dream.
When glory was within reach.

Jennifer Lawrence Looked Cold

This week a photograph of Jennifer Lawrence has been the centre of controversy. Feeling inspired but lazy I decided to construct a ‘found poem‘, searching through the things said online and reconstructing them into my own poetry.

Freedom

Once a month the nation bow their heads.
One nation under God.
Check the killer’s skin:
Is it ‘seal the borders’
Or is it ‘nothing could be done’?

Thoughts and prayers.
Think and pray.
Do not act.
The nation could be torn apart,
If someone were to act.

A sacrifice to Freedom,
The true god of America.
The freedom to tear flesh from bodies at 1200 feet.
The freedom to end the lives of others on a whim.
The freedom to make one’s rage another’s problem.
The freedom to become important.

Jehovah does not live here.
One nation under Freedom.
Human sacrifice is demanded
And the great god is appeased.

A gun in every classroom,
A sniper in every tree.
When paranoia and chaos reign,
All men shall be Free.

Coca Cola Hates America

O beautiful for spacious skies,
For farmers with their grain,
Keeping corporate dynasties,
In economic gain!

America! America!
God shed His grace on thee,
And crown thy English-speaking brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!

O beautiful for pilgrim feet
And those who did descend,
Till Mexicans and Muslims meet,
To cause our country’s end.

America! America!
God mend their ev’ry flaw,
Bless their soul with self-control,
Make talking English our law.

O beautiful for glorious tale,
Of liberating strife,
While chaining the black male,
The husband votes for the wife.

America! America!
Everything has been forever fine.
As long as Americans don’t learn foreign,
We shall remain divine.

O beautiful for patriot dream
I don’t need no history.
Send away the poor, huddled masses too,
America shall be ran by patriots like me.

America! America!
God shed His grace on me,
And send away brown brotherhood,
Across the shining sea!
